hannon & Wilson was founded in 1954 by two brilliant engineers, Bill Shannon and Stan Wilson. The two created a culture of technical excellence that is a core value of the company to this day. Shannon & Wilson continues to be an industry leader in geotechnical engineering and is known for its breadth and depth of technical expertise. This culture of technical excellence now includes generations of women who are thriving at Shannon & Wilson and contributing to the companys success at all levels. Vice-President Monique Anderson jokes that the number of women at Shannon & Wilson tripled in 1990-the number went from 1 to 3-after she and Senior Associate Carole Leigh were hired that year. For many years, women made up a small percentage of the technical staffin the industry and at Shannon & Wilson. Fast-forward to 2022, women now represent nearly 40 percent of all technical staffat the company. The leadership recognized the value that female engineers brought to the profession and the company and made hiring and retaining women engineers a priority over the last decade. In following the companys culture of technical excellence, the increase has also happened naturally with the recruitment of top female candidates in our field and in university
